Allegheny Brass Band

Rich Ammon | Cornet

Rich AmmonI began playing the trumpet when I was twelve years old. I enrolled in the Schools Music Program. Throughout my high school years I played in the Concert, Marching, and Dance Bands. After High school I entered the military service in 1967 and my trumpet was retired to the closet until 1981. In 1981 I was encouraged by my Music Minister, Vance Neal, to join the Church orchestra.

For the next ten years I played for my church performing in Musicals, Sunday services, and arranged and performed several trumpet Solos and Trios. During that time period I also joined The Harrisville and Worthington Community Bands under the leadership of John Gillespie and Dennis Cramer. I was inspired by their leadership and dedication to bring the arts to the residences of the area. My musical abilities continued to improve while under their direction. In 1992 I joined the Allegheny Brass Band under the direction of John Culp. Today I continue to play with my church orchestra and the Allegheny Brass Band.

I play a Yamaha Shepherds Crook Cornet model number: YCR633OS and use a Vincent Bach Mount Vernon NY #6 mouthpiece. I work in the Finance Industry, and enjoy going to our Summer Place, with my wife Virginia, our family and friends. At our Summer Place Community I help with the music program at our Chapel and assist with the Chapels Sound System. While at our Summer Place we enjoy cookouts, and the many activities that are offered.
